Above all else yoga has taught me to Love myself, to be at peace, and to better cope with the stresses of everyday life. Through yoga I continue to be more comfortable in my own skin, to be confident in my decision making, and make better choices. It has brought me clarity, and allowed me to see myself and my subconscious thought patterns more clearly, providing me with a foundation from which to evolve and grow; and this is what I hope to provide my students with.
Yoga is for everyone, not just the spiritual and the flexible.
My approach to yoga combines my trainings in meditation, mindfulness, and yoga. Moving from the ground up I place strong emphasis on solid foundations, exploring the commonalities between the different postures, and really embodying the principles that underly all the movements. Exploring the subtle, being intimate with our personal experience, to empower individuals to move with integrity. I encourage meeting ourselves on the mat with an open mind, without judgement, and a hell of a lot of compassion; going very deep, while at the same time maintaining a light playfulness in attitude. My aim is to empower my students with a solid foundation in the understanding of yoga, so that they may be free to explore it on their own.
Classes I teach
This is my signature class; beginning the classes with a mindfulness meditation, moving gradually into movement. We bring a childlike fascination to this experience of having and moving a body. While exploring it through a traditional slow flow. As with all my classes I emphasis moving mindfully, really trusting the body's innate intelligence, always clarifying to move with integrity, and being mindful of the body as a whole. Finishing the class with a sound meditation.
There are certain elements that apply across the board in all styles of yoga. Relating to the spine, the relationship between body parts, breath, bandhas, and really our foundations. In these classes we will go deeper into really establishing what these foundations are, so as to provide you with a solid understanding in your practice, and thus support you in practicing more confidently both in class and at home. These classes will provide you with an in-depth understanding of key concepts often referred to in yoga classes, that perhaps may not be entirely clear with you. Particularly suitable for beginners; though even for the intermediate, as sometimes there are concepts that we can always go deeper in.
These classes begin with an element of breathwork or pranayama, supporting the cultivation of mindful presence. The classes will focus on up to 5 postures, holding each posture for a few minutes so as to give the body time to really sink deep and access the deeper layers of tissue; thus in the long term providing us with greater flexibility. Throughout the class we will also practice and develop mindfulness skills, which with practice support us in being more at peace and more effective in our daily lives.
